Percussion Manual for the Beginning Percussionist - Tony Edwards
A new way of teaching percussion

After teaching for some 20 years I felt it necessary to develop a system of teaching that would not only educate students in the fundamentals of modern day percussion essentials, but also prepare those students for a possible career in music. So many students come into my studio, as music majors, with deficiencies in reading, basic theory, and an overall understanding of the genre of percussion. I decided to establish a curriculum, from beginner to advanced, that would help better prepare the serious percussion student for a career in music. This is the first of three books:

Beginning Percussion Manual

If anyone has ever taught beginning percussion they soon realize just how difficult a task it can truly be! So many questions: Where do I start? Reading or technique? When do I introduce mallets? How do I teach the concept of rolls (buzzes or doubles)? The list goes on-and-on. It is a confusing maze of pedagogical problems.

After teaching for over 15 years I've developed a method that I feel helps resolve most of these problems with teaching beginning percussionist.

The Beginning Percussion Manual provides a new and systematic method for teaching percussion. Anyone can teach out of this book!
